The police, during the early hours, launched an operation with the support of the armed forces to evacuate the protesters occupying the vicinity of the presidential secretariat. The Police Headquarters announced.
The police spokesperson said a team of Police officers assisted by the security forces arrested nine suspects while Police officers on duty hospitalised two with minor injuries.
The suspects are between 26-58 years in age, and residents of Kelaniya, Embilipitiya, Ja-Ala, Ratnapura, Sevanagala, Wellampitiya, Pitigala, Wadduwa, and Nugegoda.
Arrangements are now underway to produce them before a Magistrate, according to Police.
Further investigations are underway by the Fort Police under the supervision of the Colombo Central Senior Superintendent of Police and that criminal investigation department.
Fingerprint examination officers will gather other scientific evidence needed for the investigations.
