Hikkaduwa police say that two Russian tourists caught in a whirl while swimming in the Hikkaduwa off the Panangoda sea were rescued yesterday (17) by police and Navy lifeguards.

The two rescued Russian nationals are 27 and 29 years old.

The two were staying at a tourist hotel in the Hikkaduwa area. Hikkaduwa Panangoda arrived at the sea screen for swimming yesterday afternoon. While swimming in the ocean, they were caught in a current and swept further into the deep sea.

The Police life-saving boat commanded by the officers of the police life-saving unit, on-duty sub-inspector Hevage, PO 94884 Chaturanga, and navy life-saving unit sailors SS Karunananda and RRN Rajakaruna rescued the tourists.
