A 48-year-old doctor working at Peradeniya Teaching Hospital who allegedly sold high-dose painkillers to drug-addicted youths, was arrested by the Athgala Police last night (13) on suspicion.
Based on the information that this doctor was selling drugs by charging high prices, the police had been investigating him for several weeks and arrested him in the Atgala area of Gampola.
At the time of arrest, the doctor had about 1600 painkiller pills, police said. The doctor arrested on suspicion is a resident of Gelioya area.
The Gampola Athgala Police are investigating the incident.
