The Commissioner-General of Excise M.J Gunasiri again points out that it would be appropriate to take a decision regarding the sale of liquor online.
Commenting on the loss incurred due to the closure and inability to sell liquor during the lockdown period he said that government loose revenue from excise taxes would be around 15 Billion rupees.
It is reported that the lowest price of an average bottle of liquor has risen to Rs. 4,000 due to the closure of liquor stores.
In this situation, the Commissioner-General of Excise says that an alternative method of selling liquor is expected at a time when traffic restrictions or curfews have been imposed.
