The entire fishing community in the North is protesting against the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu’s attempt to acquire the Kachchativu island by providing food and kerosene to the people of the North, Northern Province Fisheries Leader S. Annamalai said in Jaffna yesterday (28).
He was speaking at a press conference in Jaffna.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said that India was being pressured to take over Kachchativu Island because if it was acquired, Indian fishermen would be able to fish directly from Rameswaran to Jaffna without any hindrance.
Annamalai, who has accused the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister of giving such an opportunity to Indian fishermen and hoping to get a large number of votes in the next election, said that the Chief Fisheries Leader of the Northern Province, Annamalai, had come to the aid of the people of Sri Lanka at a time of economic hardship to plunder the resources of Sri Lanka. The fishermen are totally opposed to the Minister’s attempt.
