The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to appoint a high powered Economic Stabilization Committee headed by former Finance Secretary Dr. R. Samaratunga to advice on measures to be taken to stabilize the current economic situation, the Sunday Times reports.
The committee comprises Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank, Mahinda Siriwardena, Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Shamini Cooray, Former Director of Capacity Development of the International Monetary Fund, Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy, Former Governor of the Central Bank and S. Daniel.
In addition, Dr. Deshal de Mel, who also served as an advisor to the Ministry of Finance from 2017-2019; ) Economist Dr. Dushni Weerakoon and former Economic Adviser to former minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera, Daniel Alponso.
The committee will include three other members of the private sector, the Sunday Times reports.
