Professor Ashoka Dangolla,of the Veterinary Medicine Department at the University of Peradeniya, stated that due to the non-academic staff strike, the veterinary department is limiting animal treatments to 10 per day.
Previously, around 60-70 animals were treated daily, but this has changed since the strike began. He noted that x-ray tests, urine tests, blood tests, and digital tests have all ceased, making it challenging to provide proper treatment and diagnosis.
He added that despite the strike, students still have the opportunity to observe treatments. According to Professor, non-academic staff have indicated that power outages will not be restored due to trade union actions. He noted that the ongoing strike also poses a risk of damaging vital samples stored in refrigerators, which could impact studies.
