Colombo, June 24 – The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today rejected bail applications filed by three suspects, including Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Maheshi Surasinghe Wijeratne of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, who were remanded earlier on bribery charges.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga ordered that the suspects be further remanded until July 8.

The suspects are accused of selling neurosurgical devicesExternal Ventricular Drains (EVD) and Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) Shunts—to patients at inflated prices ranging from Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 250,000, although the market price is reportedly between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 60,000.
Investigations led by the Bribery Commission have so far recorded statements from over 70 affected patients, with estimated fraudulent earnings exceeding Rs. 30 million.
Further investigations are ongoing. The Bribery Commission has requested more victims to come forward with information.\
