MP Sarath Weerasekera, who had his US visa application rejected, has received a special invitation from China. Sources close to him have revealed that he is scheduled to attend the second Global Economic Development and Security Forum in Hunan Province, China, tomorrow (29) and day after tomorrow (30), organized by the Boao Forum For Asia.
During his visit to China, MP Sarath Weerasekera is also expected to meet with Li Baodong, the Secretary General of the Boao Forum for Asia. Known for his pro-China stance, Weerasekera’s actions have garnered attention, especially his welcoming of the controversial Chinese ship ‘Yuan Wang 5’ in Sri Lanka, despite opposition from the United States and India.
In response to the rejection of his US visa application, Weerasekera took a stance against the statements made by US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung. He submitted a recommendation through Parliament, urging the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on National Security to advise Ambassador Chung to refrain from commenting on Sri Lanka’s internal affairs.
