The suspect in the tragic mass shooting that claimed the lives of 18 people in Maine, USA, has been found deceased. Authorities have been diligently searching for Robert Card, the former Army Sergeant believed to be responsible for the deadly attack.
Police located Card’s abandoned vehicle shortly after the shooting, sparking a manhunt. Tragically, his body was discovered in a forest near Lisbon.
During the investigation, a suicide note written by Card to his son was found. The note did not provide a clear motive for his actions.
The community of Lewiston has been living in fear due to the series of murders committed by Card, and his death has brought a sense of relief to the residents.
Maine Governor Janet Mills expressed her relief at a news conference, stating, “Like many people here, I breathe a sigh of relief tonight that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone.”
Law enforcement officials have revealed that Card had a history of mental illness and had received psychiatric treatment for a two-week period earlier this year.
