Veteran singer, musician, and tele drama director Sunil Siriwardena, has passed away at the age of 81. Per his last wishes, he was laid to rest today (28) at 6:00 PM at the Welisara cemetery.
Siriwardena’s melodious voice and musical contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts of Sri Lankans. His songs, including “Randu Veve Yalu Veve,” performed alongside his sister Chandrika Siriwardena, as well as “Pahan Tharuva Pravake” and “Dev Duva,”.
Sunil Siriwardena was not only a prominent artist but also the father of Madhumadhava Aravinda and Dhananjaya Siriwardena, as well as the brother of scholar Chandrika Siriwardena. He was a shining star in the world of arts.
The late artist’s final wish was one of generosity and compassion. He requested that his belongings, which his sons do not need, be given to those in need. He also asked for food to be provided to approximately 50 needy individuals who are struggling.
Siriwardena’s musical legacy lives on, with new compositions and renditions of his songs continuing to be appreciated and celebrated.
