Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation today (01) with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss the worsening humanitarian situation.

According to a statement from the Indian Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Modi extended his condolences over the loss of life, widespread destruction, and displacement caused by Cyclone Ditwah. He affirmed that the people of India stand in strong solidarity with Sri Lanka during this difficult moment.

President Dissanayake expressed his deep gratitude for India’s rapid response, including the swift deployment of rescue personnel and immediate relief supplies. He also conveyed the appreciation of the Sri Lankan public for what he described as timely, effective, and life-saving support.

Prime Minister Modi assured that India would continue assisting Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu, which is currently focused on rescue operations and emergency relief for affected communities. He reiterated that India, guided by Vision MAHASAGAR and its long-standing role as the “First Responder” in the region, will keep extending essential support as Sri Lanka moves into the next phases of rehabilitation, restoration of services, and rebuilding livelihoods.

In addition, it is stated that an in-kind donation worth 100 million Chinese Yuan is also expected to be provided.
