A 9-year-old boy duped by an unknown person while watching the second Kumbal Perahera in Kandy went missing on the same night and is now in the custody of the Maharagama police.
This child named Amila Abhiman accompanied an unknown person to Colombo.
While travelling to Maharagama from Colombo, the child had tried to jump off the train, the child’s mother told a Police inquiry held in this connection.
The nine-year-old child was then handed over to the Maharagama police by a group of people on the train.
The child’s mother had complained to the Kandy police that the child had gone missing last night (03) while he was near the grandmother selling betel near the clock tower in Kandy.
The mother, an employee of the Municipal council, left the child with the grandmother and went to her duty station. On her return, after the Perahera, she found that the child was missing.
