Basil Rajapaksa was sworn in as the new Minister of Finance before President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (08).
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was given the new portfolio as the Minister of Economic Policy and Planing with the revision of the scope of the Ministry.
Following the resignation of Jayantha Ketagoda, party secretary Sagara Kariyawasam nominated Basil Rajapaksa to fill the vacancy, the Elections Commission said in a gazette notification yesterday (07).
Minister Namal Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President PB Dissanayake were present at the swearing in ceremony. Jayasundera, Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Prime Minister’s Secretary Gamini Senarath and Pushpa Rajapaksa were also present at the occasion, the Presidential Media Unit said.
