The bodies of two Muslims who died at the Covid Treatment Unit of the Kandy National Hospital have been handed over to their relatives, reports say. The bodies of a 68-year-old resident of Murutalawa and a 65-year-old resident of Akurana who died of Covid pneumonia have been released for leaving questions among Kandy Health authorities.
Following the issue of the bodies of Muslims dying of Covid infection, a place for burial was provided in accordance with the quarantine laws. It is reported that the bodies and Akurana, which had been released in violation of all the rules, have been buried in the mosque near their homes.
Sources at the Kandy Hospital say that an urgent investigation should be carried out to determine whether the bodies have been released after accepting bribes and whether the infected bodies have been returned to their homes in this manner from the Kandy National Hospital.
