Breaking the diplomatic protocols Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa have visited Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka today. Reliable sources reveal that those ministers have brought Secretaries of the respective ministries as well as Director General of Agriculture Dr. Ajantha de Silva along with them to meet the Chinese Ambassador Ki Senhong this evening (25).
Although the diplomatic protocol was that the ambassador should come and meet the minister or the secretary, they have visited the Ambassador, breaking traditions to discuss on controversial chinese fertilizer.
Director General of Agriculture is the key figure who took a direct decision on behalf of the country to rejected the Chinese organic fertilizer citing contain of harmful micro organisms based on test results.
The Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka called on the Prime Minister to make arrangements to meet the Prime Minister today after the Director General of Agriculture instructed the Harbor Master of Colombo port to not to allow the fertilizer ship to enter to any port of Sri Lanka.
Instead, the two ministers had broken the rules of honor and gone to meet the Chinese ambassador.
The ship Hippo Spirit, which arrived in Sri Lanka with this stock of fertilizer containing pathogenic bacteria, is currently staying in the South Seas 12 nautical miles off coast.
