Authorities have made the decision to temporarily close all schools in the Matara district for the upcoming Monday (09) and Tuesday (10) after considering the severe weather conditions.
This decision was reached during a special meeting convened at the Matara District Secretariat today (07) taking into account the safety of students and the overall situation.
In light of the current weather conditions, schools in the Matara district had already been shut down for the past two days.
Given the persistently heavy rainfall, authorities have issued severe flood warnings for the Ginganga Valley and Nilwala Valley regions.
The Irrigation Department has also reported a significant flood situation in the Baddegama area.
