Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage has intructed his Ministry Sectretary Dr Udith Jayasigghe to remove Professor Buddhi Marambe of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya from all positions he held in the Ministry of Agriculture. Media release of the ministry further says that professor Marambe was in several committees including National Agriculture policy forming committee , Agriculture modernization project.
Prof. Marambe has been a director of CIC Holdings, a company that imports chemical fertilizers, and has been accused of taking the lead in implementing various programs against the previous government’s ban on glyphosate imports, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has announced that Prof. Marambe has been accused of making statements by the university community, community organizations and the general public criticizing the eco-friendly agriculture being implemented by the present government on a policy decision.
In addition, the government has drawn his attention to criticizing government policies by holding various positions in several state ministries.
Accordingly, the Minister of Agriculture has taken steps to remove Prof. Marambe from all his posts in the Ministry of Agriculture and the institutions under it.
