There is a large number of district association officials who are receiving financial packages from Sri Lanka Cricket contrary to its Constitution.
According to the cricket constitution, officials are appointed to district and provincial associations to perform voluntary services.
Though no salary has been paid to such officials by Sri Lanka Cricket, the current cricket authorities have arranged to pay a monthly package ranging from rupees one hundred thousand to two hundred thousand to the president, secretary, and vice president of many district associations.
Members opine that this is just a handout given in view of the upcoming election of office bearers of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Among the people who are receiving financial packages are as follows: Hambantota (5), Matara (1), Galle (3), Monaragala (2), Kandy (3), Matale (9), Ampara (1), Batticaloa (1), Trincomalee (1), Vavuniya (1), district presidents, secretaries, vice presidents, and treasurers.
In order to disburse the monies, the SLC has also appointed district coordinators to the relevant districts.
Meanwhile, it has been noted that the most positions have been created in the Matale district, which is the least developed district in cricket. That number is 9.
The strongman of that district is a person who holds a key position in the SLC, and his kith and kin have also been appointed to various positions and given monthly allowances.
According to the experts in the cricket field, it is a serious misdemeanor to offer financial packages to mushrooming officials in violation of the cricket constitution.
