The Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa intends to take a decision on whether step down or not from the premiership after the Cabinet meeting to be held this evening (25) a close politician to the PM told to Lankasara. He said the move was following the failure of the signature drive to show the majority of the MPs are with the PM Rajapaksa which was launched yesterday.
He further said that although the signature collection campaign was launched yesterday (24), as of 3.00 pm today, only 101 Members of Parliament have been signed to the paper. The politician said that although he had planned to present his majority to the Cabinet meeting chaired by the President today, a problematic situation had arisen as he could not get a majority until the evening.
He further stated that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will take a decision after the Cabinet meeting today on the situation that has arisen.
