Preliminary investigations have revealed that the latest consignment of gas imported by Litro to Sri Lanka is also problematic State Minister of Consumer affairs Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.
The Minister made this revelation while participating in the ‘Balaya’ program telecast on Hiru TV last night (16). He said that there were problems with the gas samples taken from the ship and that the reports have been submitted to the Bureau of Standards for recommendations.
The Minister expects the recommendations from Sri Lanka Standards Institute by today the steps to be taken regarding this stock of gas. Last week, a consignment of Butane Propane composition changed gas was imported into Sri Lanka, but the gas leak detection chemical Mercapton was not used to the required proposition and the gas landing was rejected.
It was revealed at the event that both ships are currently near Colombo.
Minister Alagiyawanna further stated that at present there is a stockpile of about 2000 metric tons of hazardous gas with modified composition of 50% each of butane and propane, which will be released for industrial use in the future.
