One of three people diagnosed with the omicron virus is a foreigner,who visited Sri lanka for Casino gambling and has already left the country and health investigations have revealed that he has now left the country. The sample taken when he was about to leave for India has confirmed that he was infected with Omicron variant sources said.
The other victim is a Sri Lankan national and the third is an associate of his, said Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath.
He added that further details could not be given as information was being sought about them.
According to the Association of Health Professionals, one of the infected patients was diagnosed with Omichrono on October 9, when he returned to Sri Lanka and left for India on December 11.
Ravi Kumudesh, the president of the association, said that it was suspected that he may have been infected when he arrived in the country and that it was not surprising that the country had to face such a dangerous situation as the health authorities were trying to stop the PCR testing of foreigners entering the country.
He said that it had been revealed that the victim had taken both Covishield injections and had come to a casino restaurant in Bambalapitiya for a casino game.
Ravi Kumudesh pointed out that there could be a large number of his associates and that the decision taken by the health authorities not to screen the vaccinated persons when they arrived in the country was very dangerous.
