An unexpected explosion during a landmine clearance operation in the Kokkuthuduwai area of Mullaitivu left four workers injured. The injured individuals were swiftly admitted to Mullaitivu Hospital for medical care.
The incident occurred while the workers were in the process of clearing landmines, as they were proceeding along Welioya road from Kokkuthoduai to the Vembadi junction. The initial explosion occurred when a dozer, used for the removal of landmines, encountered an explosive device. The demining workers were injured in the resulting explosion.
Fortunately, the medical staff at Mullaitivu Hospital have reported that none of the four injured individuals are in critical condition.
Mullaitivu Kokilai police have initiated investigations into the incident to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the explosion.
