Sri Lanka ODI team captain, Kusal Mendis, expressed his regret for the recent defeats in cricket, acknowledging the pain it brings to passionate cricket enthusiasts. Mendis issued a public apology to the nation for the team’s performance.
Mendis highlighted that, “Considering the unpredictable nature of the sport, every player, no matter how skilled, is susceptible to setbacks.” He implored fans to support the team during challenging times, stating, “At such a time, help us to be strong without bringing us down any further. It takes a lot of effort to stand up from the fallen place in such cases.”
Sharing a personal experience, Mendis revealed instances of receiving unsolicited criticism, emphasizing the impact such comments have on a player.
In a final plea, Mendis underscored that players do not aim to fail intentionally and assured that such statements are taken seriously by aggrieved players. He emphasized the commitment of players to give their best for the country and urged fans to offer encouragement during both triumphs and trials.
