Keheliya Rambukwella Resigns Amid Allegations of Involvement in Immunoglobulin Scandal

Keheliya Rambukwella, currently incarcerated in connection with the immunoglobulin scandal, resigned as the Minister of Environment today (06). Sources close to the President confirm that the President has accepted Rambukwella’s resignation and has assumed control of the Ministry of Environment.

Rambukwella faces remand until February 15th following orders from the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court. He stands accused of purchasing substandard anti-coagulant vaccines during his tenure as the Minister of Health, allegedly defrauding the government and endangering patients’ lives.

During court proceedings last Saturday (03), it was revealed that Rambukwella, as Health Minister, purportedly instilled false fears of a health sector collapse within three weeks, leading to the distribution of inferior medicine to government hospitals. These accusations played a pivotal role in the court’s decision to remand him.

Criticism regarding Rambukwella’s continuance as a cabinet minister from prison has intensified, with the GMOA raising ethical concerns and questioning the President’s stance on the matter.
