Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was arrested today (02) by the CID following his continuous evasion of the CID after being summoned to give a statement regarding the immunoglobulin vaccine case, as ordered by the Maligakanda court.
Rambukwella appeared at the CID today (02) morning and underwent nine hours of questioning, during which his statements were recorded. Subsequently, the CID decided to arrest him.
Earlier, the Attorney General had instructed Rambukwella to appear before the CID on the 31st to provide a statement concerning the immunoglobulin case. However, he did not comply with the summons. Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama, representing the Attorney General’s Department, informed the court that Rambukwella deliberately missed the opportunity to give a statement.
Rambukwella had cited his participation in a High Court case at 9:00 am on the 31st as a reason for his absence from the CID. The Deputy Solicitor General revealed that the President’s Secretary had provided written information stating that Rambukwella did not participate in any special meeting on the evening of the January 31st.
