Investigations are underway to arrest former Minister Johnston Fernando for allegedly attacking peaceful protesters in front of Galle Face and Temple Trees on May 9 according to CID sources.
According to the sources a report by the CID will be presented to the court today (01) and further action will be taken following subsequent court orders, the sources said.
Earlier, the Attorney General had ordered the CID to arrest 17 suspects, including Johnston Fernando and Deshabandu Tennakoon, if there was sufficient evidence.
Former ministers Sanath Nishantha and Milan Jayatilleke were among those arrested and remanded.
The Attorney General did not include the names of Mahinda Rajapaksa and Namal Rajapaksa in the list of those to be arrested.
