Duminda Silva, who’s presidential pardon was suspended by the Supreme Court has been taken into custody by the CID, police said. He was arrested while receiving treatment at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital.
The former MP and the currently the Chairman of National Housing Development Authority was admitted to Ward 18 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital this morning under the supervision of Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, a neurosurgeon, due to an epileptic condition.
Duminda Silva, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, was granted a presidential pardon by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on June 2021.
The Supreme Court has ordered the suspention of the pardon and the arrest of Duminda Silva after considering two fundamental rights petitions filed by Hirunika Premachandra, her mother Sumana Premachandra and former Commissioner for Human Rights Ghazali Hussain challenging the President’s pardon.
