The IGP thus far has failed to act against DIG Rohan Premaratne following a report submitted by the highest intelligence unit regarding the serious misconduct alleged to have been committed by the said DIG.

The DIG allegedly engaged in the misconduct while serving as Senior Superintendent of Police at Mt. Lavinia.

An investigation conducted by the country’s highest intelligence unit regarding the alleged serious misconduct committed by Senior DIG Rohan Premaratne while he was the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Mt. Lavinia Division was forwarded to the Inspector General of Police six months ago.

According to internal sources, the Criminal Investigation Department reported facts to the court regarding an alleged financial crime amounting to Rs 7.4 million in which the said police officer had an involvement.

Reports said that the extracts of the investigation had been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police with many serious revelations after an investigation carried out by the country’s main intelligence unit in relation to a petition received regarding him.

But surprisingly, police internal sources confirm that the IGP has failed to take any preliminary steps in this regard.

A full investigation was conducted on the directions of the Inspector General of Police regarding Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Rohan Preramatna, who was allegedly accused of handing over 7.4 million rupees, which is considered to be a court production. After revealing all the facts of the related financial crime, the Criminal Investigation Department forwarded the investigation report to the Inspector General of Police six months ago. But the Inspector General of Police had failed to act on the investigations conducted.

After the investigating officer reported the facts to the court, the director of the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, N.V. Lawrence, who was in charge of the investigation, was summarily transferred to the field force headquarters.
