Talawakele police have initiated investigations into the mysterious death of an unidentified woman, whose body was discovered yesterday (01) at the top of the Great Western mountain in Talawakele.
A group of young people who were camping on the mountain informed the police about the dead body. Talawakele police promptly reached the scene and began the investigation.
Authorities suspect that the deceased woman may have been part of a group that crossed the Great Western mountain range, speculating that the group may have left her body on the mountain and fled.
The body, located near a cliff on one side of the Great Western Munda, will undergo a post-mortem examination at the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital after inspection by the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate.
The Great Western Range is a protected area managed by the Department of Forest Conservation. Officials will hold discussions today (02) to establish a proper system for individuals seeking to enter the reserve for camping purposes.
