Following the unfortunate demise of Himali Priyadarshanni, a resident of Kosgoda and mother of two, due to heart failure after receiving an anesthetic injection during a surgery at the National Eye Hospital on the 4th, the anesthetic drug in question has been removed, announced Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Director General of Health Services.
Providing details on the matter, Dr. Gunawardena stated that all the anesthetic drugs involved have been sent to the National Quality Laboratories for thorough testing and analysis.
Regarding the anesthetic drugs, Dr. Gunawardena noted that the deceased woman had an 80 percent blockage in her heart. While her heart failure occurred after receiving the anesthetic drugs, he emphasized that it cannot be concluded that the administration of the anesthetic drugs directly caused her death.
Dr. Asela Gunawardena stressed the importance of conducting further research to better understand the properties and effects of the specific anesthetic drug involved in the case.
