Inspector General of Police DC Wickramaratne has confirmed his retirement after completing his tenure yesterday (24). Although the President nominated the Inspector General of Police, who received four service extensions, to extend his service by three weeks on two occasions, the Constituent Assembly did not approve the name, leading to the conclusion of his term.
At the same time, several senior police officers vying for the position of Inspector General intensified internal struggles for the post. However, inside sources indicate that the President is considering several officers for the role, with a focus on appointing someone with an excellent service character rather than those engaged in intense competition.
The President is expected to propose a new Inspector General of Police in the next few days.
