President Ranil Wickramasinghe has recommended that IGP Wickramaratne be granted a fourth service extension. This decision comes in response to the protracted and intense power struggle that has emerged within the police force regarding the position of the Inspector General of Police.
Police Media Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police, Advocate Nihal Talduwa, has confirmed that the Inspector General of Police has been granted a three-week service extension.
This extension is intended to provide a temporary solution to the ongoing challenges associated with the selection of a new Inspector General of Police and to facilitate a more orderly transition of leadership within the police force.
