ILMA International Girls' School Celebrates 35 Years with Commemorative Stamp Launch

The 35th-anniversary celebrations of the esteemed Ilma International Girls’ School were commemorated with a momentous stamp launching ceremony on the 21st of October, 2023, at the school auditorium. Organized by the Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau of the Department of Posts, the event witnessed the unveiling of a Commemorative Stamp and a First Day Cover, paying homage to the school’s remarkable journey and its enduring legacy.

Mr Shantha Bandara, the Honourable Acting Minister of Mass Media, ceremonially presented the cover to the Principal of the school, Mrs Sarah Hussain. The other dignitaries present at the launch include Mr. Rajitha Ranasinghe – Deputy Postmaster General (Operations); Mr Sisira Kumara Walallawita – Deputy Postmaster General (Western Province – South); Mr Aslam Hasan – Superintendent, Central Mail Exchange; Mr Lanka De Silva – Director, Philatelic Bureau; Mr Haniff Yusoof – CEO, Expolanka Holdings; Mr A.H.M. Fowzie – Honourable Member of Parliament; Mrs Mirzana Zahir – Chairperson Ilma Educational Foundation; Mr Hazeem Bishrul Hafi – Chief Operating Officer, Ilma International Girls’ School and Mrs Shaznin Sheriff – President, Ilma International Old Girls’ Association (IIOGA).

The presence of the academic management, along with the dedicated academic and non-academic staff and the enthusiastic well-wishers, parents, and accomplished alumni, added an aura of nostalgia and pride to the event.

Ilma International Girls’ School (IIGS) was established in 1988 by the visionary Late Mrs Rasheeda Mohideen and the Ilma Educational Foundation (IEF) to provide girls with a holistic education in the English medium.

The collaborative efforts of the school and its Old Girls Association orchestrated this momentous occasion, elevating it to a celebration of shared memories and aspirations.

As the curtains drew on this unforgettable day in the history of Ilma International Girls School, the attendees relished refreshments, fostering camaraderie and marking this ceremonial event with a note of joyous celebration and anticipation for the promising years ahead.

The stamp launch ceremony stood as a testament to the legacy of excellence that the school has diligently fostered over the decades, reinforcing its pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation through the empowerment of its women.
