Indian authorities are still trying to ascertain the Chief of Defense Staff also among the dead in the helicopter crash happened in South India today Reutets reports. So far there are four bodies identified and it is said that there were 15 onboard in the crashed MI 17 helicopter . A helicopter carrying India’s top military chief, Chief of Defense Staff General Biffin Rawat, and his wife has crashed in Tamil Nadu, Indian media reports. He is a former Army Commander in India.
The accident took place in a hilly area in the Nilgiris region of Tamil Nadu and four bodies and three injured persons have been found so far. The plane was carrying 14 people, including the pilot, five crew members of the Army and nine others, including the Chief of Army Staff.
The helicopter is said to be MI17V05, departing from Sulur Air Force Base. According to the reports, rescue operations have been hampered due to heavy fog in the mountainous area where the accident took place.
