Special committee appointed to look in to recent incidents in the Parliament

Speaker appoints special comittee to look in to recent incidents in the Parliament

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abewardena informed the parliament that a special committee of MPs has appointed to look into the incidents happened in the Parliament last Friday and Saturday. He further informed that the committee will be headed by the Depputy spreaker Ranith Siyambalapitiya.

The committee consists of Chamal Rajapaksa, Bandula Gunawardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Susil Premajayantha, Gayantha Karunatilake, Rauf Hakeem, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Vijitha Herath, RM Ranjith Maddumabandara and MA Sumanthiran.

The Speaker said that a group of opposition parliamentarians had made a special request yesterday (07) to ensure security in Parliament and that it was their responsibility to ensure the security of all members of parliament.

The Speaker emphasized that he had launched all possible measures to ensure the safety of all Members of Parliament. He also stressed the need to exercise restraint in the House and not to insult other Members of Parliament in their speeches.
