Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has stated that he would be the Prime Minister of an interim government.
However, the Prime Minister questioned how an interim government could be formed in the absence of one another.
Speaking to Neth Fm Radio He said he had been asked to step down by only a handful of MPs who did not know the history and that the majority of MPs were with him.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that he would once again invite the struggling youth at the Galle Face Green in Colombo for talks, adding that if they did not do so, they would have to continue their struggle.
Rajapaksa acknowledged that the country was in a difficult position and that the government had the strength to lift the country out of the crisis.
He added that there were many instances in history when the country faced more crises.
