A hundred towns across the island have been selected to develop with modern infrastructure on the instructions of the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The program will commence tomorrow (27) from Hiripitya town in Kurunegala District under the patronage of the Prime Minister Rajapaksa.
Hirirpitiya is one of eight towns that have been selected from the Kurunegala District for this project
The removal of unauthorized structures, construction and removal of illegal pavements, repair of roadside drainage systems, and repair and construction of car parks are also to be done under this project.
It also includes the legalization or removal of all unauthorized and illegal nameplates, the planting of trees, the modernization of public buildings, walls, etc., the maintenance of road and direction signs, the construction and repair of garbage dumps, etc..
It also includes activities such as removing temporary stalls that are informally in place and rearranging them where appropriate, constructing side walls and security fences.
Rs. 2 Billion has been allocated for 100 cities at a cost of Rs. 20 million per city to carry out beautiful and friendly urban development under this project.
In this context, the 100 cities selected from the 25 districts of Sri Lanka are listed separately under those districts as follows.
There are 07 cities in the Colombo district. Kotikawatta, Hanwella, Padukka, Ambulgama, Kaduwela, College Junction and Moratuwa.
10 cities in the Gampaha district. Peliyagoda, Ekala, Awariyawatta, Minuwangoda, Henegama, Mirigama, Divulapitiya, Ganemulla, Pugoda and Attanagalla.
There are 04 towns in the Kalutara district. Horana, Nagoda, Dodangoda and Meegahatenna
There are 06 cities in the Hambantota district. Weerawila, Ranna, Chittaragala, Nonagama, Angunakolapelessa and Lunugamvehera.
There are 06 towns in the Matara district. Deiyandara, Morawaka, Pitabeddara, Deniyaya, Weligama and Kamburupitiya.
There are 04 cities in the Galle district. Kumarakanda, Benthara Ambalangoda and Habaraduwa.
There are 05 cities in the Ratnapura district. Kuruwita, Ayagama, Nivithigala, Godakawela and Balangoda.
There are 04 towns in the Kegalle district. Rambukkana, Galigamuwa, Bulathkohupitiya and Morontota.
There are 09 towns in the Kurunegala District. Kobeigane, Ambanpola, Hiripitya, Bingiriya, Alawwa, Hettipola, Pannala, Polgahawela and Bambukkatuwa.
There are 03 cities in the Puttalam district. Chilaw, Thoppuwa and Palaviya.
There are 04 cities in the Anuradhapura district. Tirappane, Eppawala, Kajugollewa and Anuradhapura.
There are 04 cities in the Polonnaruwa district. Aralaganwila, Medirigiriya, Welikanda and Jayanthipura.
There are 02 cities in the Kilinochchi district. Kilinochchi and Poonaryn.
There are 02 cities in the Jaffna district. Muruthanamadam and Velanai.
