The composition of the Economic Council proposed by the President yesterday has been announced.
According to the Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma Cabinet has decided to appoint a high powered Economic Council be headed by the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Highways Minister Johnston Fernando, Agriculture Minister Mahindanan Aluthgamage and Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Plantation Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana as cabinet members for the Economic Council.
In addition, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank and the Deputy Governor have been nominated to the Council.
The President has decided to convene the Economic Council weekly with the aim of accelerating the country’s economic growth through in-depth discussions on domestic economic policies and overall economic management.
