While condemning the yesterday attack on Samagi Jana Balawegaya head office at Ethulkotte, Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has stated that he does not approve of the attack with rotten eggs,which can be described as a an undeveloped tribal nature.
Speaking to the Cabinet briefing today, the Minister of Mass Media and Information stated that although everyone has the right to protest peacefully, he does not expect such despicable acts and that it is a situation that shows their tribal nature.
The egg attack on the Samagi Jana Balawegaya office in Kotte was led by Madura Vithanage, a Member of Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Podujana party.
He was responding to a question posed by a journalist further said that he dies not believe that recent protest held in front of President’s Private residence in Mirihana has taken place without prior knowledge of intelligence. However he said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the only president that allocate seperate land slot only for peaceful democratic protests.
He therefore rejected the notion that the agitation could have been prevented if the intelligence had been aware of it.
Addressing the Cabinet, Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma further stated that he understands the plight of the people in the current situation in the country and that the Government is deeply saddened by this.
We all understand that the root cause of this situation is the dollar crisis and the government is now working positively to resolve it. He said that discussions were held in the Cabinet yesterday to expedite the supply of fuel for the reconnection of several private sector power plants to the national grid and that steps would be taken soon.
