Heavy security has been deployed mainly in the Colombo city and suburbs since yesterday creating much speculation among the general public. Police sources say that a special crime prevention surveillance operation has been launched islandwide since yesterday (13) police sources said.
Sources close to the Office of the Inspector General of Police further state that due to the political and security situation on the island in the last year, it was not possible to give priority to the crime prevention operations, and the behavior of the suspects of illegal arms transport and drug traffickers has been observed throughout the island. Accordingly, the police headquarters says that a formal operation has been started
The Inspector General of Police through the Senior Deputy Inspector Generals in charge of the province deploys a maximum number of officers to cover the roads and maintain continuous search operations, randomly selects all types of vehicles running on the road, and arranges to get the support of the army in a necessary manner. All responsible police chiefs have been informed.
