The Alliance of Health Trade Unions states that the health trade unions have decided to go on a continuous strike again from May 9 to achieve “economic justice”.
The co-convener of the alliance, Chanaka Dharmawickrama, states that the 4-month long struggle for economic justice was temporarily stopped in April due to the promise of providing allowances according to the technical report prepared by the Ministry of Health.
But he said that due to the non-fulfillment of those agreements, the union representatives who met today (7) decided to start the trade union action again.
He also said that the trade unions will take action to withdraw from duty in all hospitals and health institutions in the provinces from the 9th and if no response is received for this, it has been decided to go on a continuous strike throughout the province from May 22.
The strike which will be implemented in North Central Province on May 9, Central Province on May 13, and Panjanggamubu Province on May 14 will be implemented in North West and South Province on May 15 and 16 respectively. The alliance emphasizes that the strike on May 20 and 21 will be implemented in Uva and Western provinces.
