The General Council of the Alliance of Health Trade Unions, in a unanimous decision, has declared its intention to engage in continuous professional action to advocate for economic justice for health workers.
Ravi Kumudesh, the convenor of the Health Trade Union Alliance, announced that the protest would commence with a symbolic strike starting at 6:30 am on Tuesday (16) and escalate into a sustained strike.
The strike is expected to involve a broad spectrum of health professionals, including medical laboratory staff, scientists, radiology technologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, speech therapists, radiotherapists, audiologists, and paramedics, including nurses.
With over 100 health sector unions expressing support and willingness to join the strike, the primary demand is the extension of the DAT allowance of Rs 35,000, currently granted to doctors, to other professions within the health sector.
