Grieving Mother Receives Son’s Posthumous Degree Certificate at University Graduation

Heartbreaking scene unfolded at Jaffna University graduation ceremony

In a deeply emotional incident that touched the hearts of everyone present, mother of Hashan who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident received her son’s degree certificate during the graduation ceremony at the University of Jaffna.

Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Hashan Sagara Dissanayake, has successfully completed his degree examination while at the Vavuniya University campus which is affiliated with the University of Jaffna.

The poignant scene unfolded in the Medavachchiya area of Anuradhapura, where the grieving mother resides. Despite her son’s untimely demise, he had passed his degree examination, and the proud mother came forward to collect his graduation certificate on his behalf.

As the name of the late student, Hashan Sagara Dissanayake, was called out during the ceremony, the weight of her loss became too much for the grieving mother to bear, and she burst into tears, deeply moving everyone in the hall. Even the fellow students of the departed student were overcome with emotion, sharing in the mother’s grief.
