The government has started releasing stocks of paddy belongs to the government to the market from today with the intention of controlling the price .
The government says that the Paddy Marketing Board has 43,000 metric tons of paddy.
The local rice stocks will be distributed through CWEs, cooperatives and selected supermarkets islandwide and the government has taken steps to release red and white raw rice as well as red and white Nadu rice to the market.
The price of a kilo of raw rice is 197 rupees and a kilo of red or white nadu is 199 rupees.
