The government has imposed a maximum price for eggs and accordingly, the consumer affairs authority has issued a special gazette notice announcing the maximum retail price of a white egg as 43 rupees and the price of a red egg as 45 rupees effective from yesterday (19).
Taking into account the production cost and demand of an egg and the current production situation, efforts have been made to bring the price of eggs, which has risen sharply in the market, under control, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Trade said Lankasara,
Meanwhile, yesterday (19) the All Ceylon Poultry Association decided to lower the price of an egg by 5 rupees with effect from next Monday, but after that the government decided to announce a maximum price for the price of eggs.
