The Executive Council of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has declared a one-day symbolic strike from 8 a.m. today (March 12) in protest against the inhumane incident faced by a lady doctor while on duty at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on the night of March 10.

The strike will continue until 8 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, March 13, affecting all hospitals across the country. However, the GMOA has assured that emergency treatment services will not be disrupted.

Additionally, the strike will not apply to children’s hospitals, maternity hospitals, renal treatment units, the National Institute of Mental Health, and Tri-Forces Hospitals.

A spokesperson for the GMOA stated that further information on the matter will be provided in due course. Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that continuous operations are underway to locate the suspect involved in the serious sexual abuse of the female doctor at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
