Proposed fuel ration system will be implemented from July Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister of Power and Energy said. Under this scheme, any consumer will receive a compulsory fuel quota, which will be 60 percent at the dedicated petrol stations where he registers and 40 percent at any other filling station, the Minister said.

He was speaking at a media briefing on fuel supply today (16).

The Minister said that a card will be introduced to issue fuel to the ration system and it is expected to be issued within next two , three weeks.
However, he pointed out that the amount of fuel supplied to each sector may vary and that no specific decision has been taken regarding the amount of fuel to be supplied and how it will be implemented in the future.

He said that many people were requesting fuel as an essential service and that the nearest request came from the Colombo National Hospital.
