Fuel queues re-emerge, with long lines forming outside petrol sheds.

The depletion of fuel stocks in petrol stations has once again pushed the public to inconvenience, causing long queues as seen a few weeks ago.

Though the QR code issued some time back effectively managed the fuel distribution, it, however, doesn’t help when the fuel stocks are not received by the petrol sheds on time.

The number of buses on the road had been reduced to a bare minimum, at least 50%, with long lines forming outside SLTB depots to obtain fuel for private buses.

Sri Lanka Transport Board sources said that due to the shortage of diesel in SLTB depots, Sri SLTB buses will suspend operations from tomorrow.

The new development has arisen within a week of the decision to restore public services and open schools.

The Petroleum Distributors Association points out that the supply of fuel to petrol stations has been restricted due to a prevailing shortage.

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Nasir Ahmed has told Hiru News that as a solution to the existing fuel problems, negotiations are being held with the government of Qatar to import fuel continuously.
