Bandula Seneviratne, the former president of Udunuwara Pradeshiya Sabha, has been apprehended by the police on suspicions of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme by promising job opportunities in foreign countries and swindled them of over 100 lakh rupees.
Numerous complaints from various areas, including Kandy, Daulagala, and Peradeniya police stations, have been filed against the suspect, accusing him of deceiving people by falsely guaranteeing lucrative employment opportunities abroad.
After an investigation into complaints filed by eight individuals with the Peradeniya Police, the suspect was arrested. Steps have been taken to present him before the court.
The arrest has prompted many victims who provided money to come forward. According to police investigations, the suspect allegedly took amounts ranging from 03 to 10 lakh rupees from each victim.
Superintendent of Police Saman Angammana is overseeing the ongoing investigations into the incident. The suspect was presented to the court today (24) and has been remanded until January 2nd.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
